Welcome to Lausanne !

Located between vineyards, forests and a lake, our city (the fifth largest in Switzerland) is the headquarters of the International Olympic Committee, 15 international sports federations and numerous other sports organisations. As a result, over the years Lausanne has become the administrative capital of world sport. It is also the setting and organiser of various national and international sporting events.

Following on from the 2004 European Junior Championships, the Olympic Capital, Lausanne, is delighted and extremely proud to host the Elite European Championships. Alongside competitors from the “Age Group”, popular and “Youth League” categories, the best European triathletes will be able to test themselves on the forthcoming 2006 World Championships. Lausanne’s topography makes it an ideal location for a decisive, exciting race.

We wish you an excellent stay here in Lausanne and look forward to seeing you again at other times of the year. You will discover a diverse city which always offers a warm welcome.

Dear triathlon friends,

Thirteen months away from the start of the 2006 World Championships, the Lausanne Triathlon Committee is delighted, honoured, flattered and extremely proud to host the 2005 European Championships.

To organise this sporting celebration and major event, my committee, supported by technical officials from the ITU (Enrique Quesada) and the Swiss Federation (Michael Machacka), has put in long hours in order to find an ideal course, to choose an interesting arrival area and to design an attractive village for our partners and sponsors.

Lessons learned from the last edition have enabled us to improve the visibility of the cycling course. I would like to proudly extend my sincere congratulations to the members of my committee, who have the strength and intelligence to constantly push themselves so that you, dear sports friends, are able to practice your favourite sport in the best possible comfort and safety.

And to all participating triathletes, from each and every category, by coming here and taking part in such large numbers, you are paying due respect to all the volunteers and members of my committee.

I sincerely hope that we enjoy a fantastic event, full of emotion, competitive and with a spirit of fair-play.

The European Championships and the Triathlon of Lausanne are organised by the Sports club of the police of Lausanne. All the organizers are volunteers. They are fully supported by the City of Lausanne, which provides many different competences needed for the sucess of this event.
